Description
Warli, is an extremely rudimentary type of wall paintings which use a very basic graphic vocabulary encompassing a circle, a triangle and a square. The circle and triangle are a form of depiction of nature. The circle represents the sun and the moon, the triangle derived from mountains and pointed trees.
The square indicates a sacred enclosure or a piece of land, which is also colloquially known as the "chauk" or "chaukat'. Inside it we find Palaghata, the mother goddess, symbolizing fertility. Noteworthy is the fact that warli, as an artform is predominated by feminine themes.
Human and animal bodies are represented by two triangles joined at the tip, the upper triangle depicting the trunk and the lower triangle the pelvis. Their precarious equilibrium symbolizes the balance of the universe.
The Warli painting, makes use of only white shade for their paintings. Their pigment is a mixture of rice paste and water. We have with us a proficient pool of artisans who can successfully draw the rudimentary art form on canvas or paper.
