Sesbania is a large legume and is also commonly known as "swamp peas". It is ideal for growing in and around duck marshes. It will grow upright on a thick stalk 8 to 12 feet tall with long slender seed pods that shatter when mature, making excellent quail feed. Sesbania will provide thick cover for birds such as quail and will stand up in winter flood conditions for ducks. It tends to thrive in almost any soil type but prefers very moist, fertile conditions. Sesbania grows rapidly in hot weather and matures in around 90 to 100 days after emergence. Seeds are highly preferred by quail, turkey and doves.
