The ability to withstand reheated bending experienced during walking without developing a crack within the estimated life span of the shoe is a very important factor for determining the quality of the sole Also the ability of any slit formed due to sharp edge or pointed object during walking is equally important in assessing its quality.

The ASIAN Ross Flex Tester consists an arrangement to hold one end of the test specimens in al oscillating grip such that they can be bent through an angle of 90º, A motor and gearbox arrangement to oscillate the free end of the test specimens pressed down during the bending operation.

The specimens at one time at one of their ends with the help holding plates and bolts. It is pivoted on two ball bearings to give a smooth low friction movement. The bending is done over a sliver steel ground rod of 10 mm diameter located with its axis coinciding with the axis of movement of the grip. The movement of the grip causes the test specimen to bend over the rod. This movement is given from a motor and a worn reduction gearbox through an eccentric and link mechanism. A digital counter is provided to count the total number of bending cycles.

The free end of test specimens are placed over two stainless steel rods to hold them horizontal during test. Three rods are also pivoted on ball bearings six sets of pressing rollers hold the test specimen.

The various components are mounted on a base plate. The equipments finished in metallic paint and bright chrome / zinc plating to give it a corrosion resistant finish.

The specimen cutting die and jig / punch for making slit for crack growth test are available as optional accessories.

The Asian low temperature cabinet ensures maximum operator safety by having the electrical control and drive systems outside the freezer area where moisture cannot impair electrical safety. The control system incorporates a digital temperature controller which can be set to achieve the desired temperature from ambient down to - 20°C, plus a counter to indicate the number of flexes carried out. The counter can be preset to stop the drive mechanism when completed.

This low temperature version of the Ross flex test is built into a low temperature cabinet. It is used for the flex testing of sole unit samples to assess the effect of flexing under low temperature conditions. It has 12 stations for small samples but can also accommodate larger samples by adjusting the mechanism.
