MS Bright Steel: Made utilizing the cold roll process, it locks in residual stresses. They in turn, can be released by machining and heating. Black oxide content is removed with dilution in hydrochloric acid. It comes in unscaled skin form. Precise size can be worked out through wire drawing process.

MS Black Steel: This is made using the hot roll process. Cooled in open air, it gets a blue-black oxidized color. In addition, cooling can be done in other ways in order to give slightly different qualities to the steel. The skin is hard scaled, making it less susceptible to residual stresses.
