Description
Krypton Gasoffered by us is present in air at about 1 ppm and is characterised by its brilliant green & orange spectral lines. Under normal conditions krypton is a colourless, odourless and fairly expensive gas. Whereas solid krypton is a white crystalline substance with face-centred cubic structure that is common to all "rare gases".
Present to a small extent (about 1 ppm by volume), Krypton present in the atmosphere is obtained as a by-product from liquefaction & separation of air and is available commercially in cylinder form.
Application:
- It used with argon as low-pressure filling gas for fluorescent lights
- It used in some photographic flash lamps for high-speed photography
- It used in lamps, UV-laser spectral line for international measurement of a metre
