Description
One of the principal types of hoists used in mining applications is a Hoist Drum that is used to raise and lower conveyances within the mine shaft. These are available in two basic designs: Single drum hoist and Double drum hoist. Single drum hoists are used for smaller applications while double drum hoists allow the hoisting of two conveyances in balance easily.
The Hoist Drum manufactured by us have the following advantages, over friction hoists:
- Require less routine maintenance
- Maintenance regime is less sophisticated
- Continue to operate, even when the shaft bottom gets flooded
When using a drum hoist, the hoisting cable is wound around the drum when the conveyance is lifted. These can be mounted on concrete within a hoist-room the hoisting ropes run from the drum, up to the top of the head frame, over a sheave wheel and down where they connect to the conveyance. To increase the rope life, the drum is machined with an optimized groove profile.
