Description
Emu eggs are only available seasonally, generally September through April in India. The female emu will lay one egg every 3-4 days during this season. In this way, An EMU can lay between 25 to 30 eggs per season. An average egg weighs between 600 and 700 grams when laid. The eggs are edible consisting of approximately 10 chicken eggs. The egg is mostly yolk but has a much milder flavor than other poultry. The ratio of whites to yolks is 55 to 45 compared to a chicken egg which is 65 white and 35 yolk. It is excellent when used in cooking. Making a breakfast from an unfertilized Emu egg can feed four people. The Emu egg has many fascinating features. It is dark green in color and also larger than many other eggs and texture may vary from hen to hen. The main reason for this is because of its harsh growing conditions like desert type climate etc.
