We are dealing in a wide range of compact personal computers, also known as Laptops which are shaped like a notebook. The name comes from the fact that it is so compact and small, that one can work on it by keeping it on their lap. It encompasses all the components of a desktop computer in a small and light unit for mobile use. It includes a display, a keyboard, a pointing device or touch pad, speakers, and often including a battery. The battery is rechargeable and can sustain the system for two to three hours, after which it can be recharged using an AC adapter. Battery life depends on the system configuration, power requirements and also on the capacity of the battery. Laptops are available in a variety of sizes like 10x8 inches (27x22cm, 13" display) to 15x11 inches (39x28cm, 17" display) and up. They usually come in the thickness range of 0.7-1.5 inches (18-38 mm)and weight range of 3 to 12 pounds (1.4 to 5.4 kg).
Apart from the closing notebook form, modern laptops are also available in tablet form which has a complex joint between the keyboard housing and the display. This enables the user to twist the display panel and lay it flat over the keyboard panel. The tablet laptops are empowered with a touch screen display which includes handwriting recognition or graphics drawing capability.
