The burnished look of aged brass jewelry appeals to the nostalgia in most of us. The warm tones remind us of the adornments of the Victorian Age or the Art Nouveau period. The process by which brass or copper jewelry is aged is called antiquing or patination. This is most easily and reliably done by employing a chemical method to alter the metal's surface color.
