About us: New or polished brass is a metal alloy, and the color varies from a light, bright "yellowish" to a moderately dark "reddish" color, depending on the ratio of elements in the alloy. Generally, the more copper the darker and more reddish the appearance.
As brass is allowed to weather (be exposed to oxygen, moisture and atmospheric gases) it changes colour to a deeper brown. This coloured coating is called a patina. It may be added artificially to brass or bronze items by coating them with chemical mixture
