Description
The blanking and forming of metals in cold condition is used in many different applications such as punching, shearing, deep drawing, cold forging, cold extrusion, cold rolling and powder pressing. all of the above processes include high mechanical forces and a sliding contact between the tool and the work material. In order to give the tool a good wear resistance and resistance to plastic deformation, high demands are put on the hardness of the steel. Highly alloyed grades of cold work steels, with high amounts of hard particles (carbides) have a far better wear resistance than steel grades with low amounts of alloys, even when compared at the same hardness level. However, the high volume of hard carbides also impairs the machinability of the steel. assab provides you with the optimum steel grade from our wide program of high-quality tool steels. Our program includes low-alloyed carbon tool steel grades, high-alloyed conventional tool steel grades, as well as powder metallurgical grades, all encompassed by proper advice on selection of the best tool steel grades and their treatments. to suit your tooling application, the work material and the estimated production series, assab offers a cold work tool steel program with grades having different combinations of: * wear resistance * resistance to plastic deformation * chipping and cracking resistance * machinability and grindability * heat treatment properties, i. E. Dimensional stability
