Indications & usage: Nebracin Dm drops and ointment are used for steroid responsive inflammatory ocular conditions for which a corticosteroid is indicated. These are also used under superficial bacterial infection of the eye and where a risk of bacterial ocular infection exists. Ocular steroids are indicated in inflammatory conditions such as:
- Palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva
- Cornea and anterior segment of the globe
- Conjunctivitis
- Chemical radiation or thermal burns
- Penetration of foreign bodies
The drug is used in combination with anti infective component where the risk of superficial ocular infection is high or in presence of bacteria in the eye.
Warnings: Benzalkonium chloride solution IP is not to be injected into the eye. Patient is advised to discontinue use in case of a sensitivity reaction. Prolonged use of steroids may result in glaucoma with damage to the optic nerve, defects in visual acuity and fields of vision and posterior sub-capsular cataract formation.
Precaution: Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non susceptible organisms including fungi. In case of a super infection appropriate therapy should be initiated. The patient should properly examine with the aid of magnification such as slit lamp bio-microscopy, before prescribing multiple dosage.
