ROTARY FURNACE:-

Rotary Furnace as the evident from name itself, it is a furnace which has heat generating equipment at one end and exhaust at other end or from the same end ( from Burner End) Which rotates on its central axis. This whole furnace is rest on sets of rollers. Rollers give drive to the Furnace. This is a group of different elements and every element itself is a subject itself. So It is a system to smelt or melt a metal or waste to recycle it to make productive for use again.

It is studied at least in four angles:

• a) Construction wise
• b) Process wise
• c) Pollution Control wise
• d) Efficiency wise

So primarily, It will have a drum and set of Rollers with the Heat Source at one end.

Basic requirement of Rotary Furnace is following:

• (1) Rotating Drum
• (2) Rollers and Tyres
• (3) Heat Source
• (4) Exhaust System for Flue Gases.

Rotating Drum (Rotary Furnace):

It is lined with Refractory Linings to enhance the life of Rotating Drum at the same time to reduce the heat conduction to the surface of the furnace so maximum heat is utilized by the Material to be smelted or melted.

This Lining reduces heat dissipation to the outer surface more the Resistance to heat lesser will be flow of heat to the outer surface which turns into temperature difference between outer surface to the inner most surface. Hence, it will reduce dissipation to the atmosphere and surroundings so more the heat utilized by the material inside. If more the heat is able to travel to the outer surface more will be wastage of heat and at the same time it will harm the environment and reduces profit.

Refractory is the fundamental part of the rotary furnace. To increase the efficiency of Rotary Furnace, more layers of Refractory Bricks are used and Every layer is designed for specific purpose.

What are refractories?

Refractories are heat resistant materials that can withstand high temperature without rapid physical & chemical deterioration.

 Any material can be described as a ‘refractory’ if it can withstand the action of abrasive or corrosive solids, liquids or gases at high temperatures. The various combinations of operating conditions in which refractories are used, make it necessary to manufacture a range of refractory materials with different properties. Refractory materials are made in varying combinations and shapes depending on their applications.
