About us: A true classic, old fashioned plant. Also called Lady's Slipper, or Touch Me Nots in times past.Very exotic plant.Dwarf plants are 10", and the stems are loaded with mini rose type buds. DIRECT SOW Plant Balsam seed right into the garden, after all danger of frost has passed, Balsam is a prolific self-sower. After one season of growth, it generally reappears from self sown seeds the next year. After frost has passed, scatter seeds where desired, or sow seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last spring frost. Do not cover the seeds with soil, as they need light to germinate. Until the seeds germinate, cover the seed trays with clear plastic to maintain high humidity. Water from below to prevent damping off. or for an early start plant seeds in flats 6-8 weeks before the last frost.Space seeds 2 inches apart, then thin to 10 inches. GARDEN HINTS: Balsam likes good soil, well drained but with a steady supply of moisture.
