Description
The african teak, afromosia, or afrormosia (pericopsis elata) is a species of legume in the fabaceae family. It is found in cameroon, republic of the congo, democratic republic of the congo, ivory coast, ghana, and nigeria. The name, in fact, means afr- pertaining to africa and ormosia - pertaining to the legume genus ormosia. Elata means elevated, a reference for its preference for rocky slopes. The wood is initially yellow but changes to the warm brown after being exposed to light and air for a time. It then resembles burma teak, but does not have the oily waxy feel to it. Ensured that the furniture is dry and devoid of any dust or dirt. When used as indoor furniture, a light coat of teak oil is recommended to keep the furniture from soiling and will last for years without need for re-coat.
