Aceclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), prescribed for people with painful rheumatic conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Aceclofenac works by blocking the effect of cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes which make chemical prostaglandins at sites of injury or damage, causing pain , swelling and inflammation. It eases pain and reduces inflammation. This medicine should not be given during pregnancy or to mothers that are breastfeeding. Is not recommended for children. This drug is available in tablet form and is taken orally.
Aceclofenac has side effects including diarrhoea , stomach pain , nausea , constipation, vomiting , skin rashes etc. If the side effects are severe or persistent it is advisable to consult your doctor.
You should not be taking Aceclofenac if –
- You are allergic to Aceclofenac or other anti-inflammatory pain killers.
- You ever had a problem with stomach or duodenal bleeding , such as an ulcer .
- You have a heart condition or impaired kidney or liver function.
- You are pregnant of breastfeeding a baby.
- You have high blood pressure or blood clotting problems.
Alcohol should not be consumed with this medicine. Aceclofenac interacts with certain other medicines like lithium, digoxin, corticosteroids and antihypertensives and certain diseases like asthma, gastro-intestinal toxicity.
The usual dose for Aceclofenac is 100 mg tablet taken twice daily, preferably in the morning and evening. It can be taken with food or after food. Drinking an adequate amount of water minimises chances of indigestion and stomach irritations. The duration and amount of medicine should be followed as per the doctor’s prescription.
Paracetamol, classified as a mild analgesic, is used to treat fever and is the most commonly used pain reliever. It is used to relieve pain in case of a backache, a headache, arthritis and a toothache . It reduces pain in the body caused due to fever. It is often given to patients who suffer from cancer or have undergone surgery , to help them cope up with the pain. Paracetamol is normally administered orally or rectally, it is also available for intravenous administration.
Paracetamol does not have any serious side effects. It is safe to use this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, in rare cases skin rashes may occur accompanied by nausea , stomach pain , and loss of appetite. You should stop using Paracetamol if you experience an allergic reaction to it or notice any other serious symptoms like dark urine, clay-colored stools or jaundice . Overdosing may result in liver failure.
You should not take Paracetamol if –
- You are allergic to Paracetamol
- You are suffering from a serious liver disorder.
- You normally consume more than 3 alcohol beverages per day or have a history of alcoholism.
There are several drugs that may interact with Paracetamol. Inform your doctor about all the other medications that you take including vitamins, minerals, prescribed drugs, over the counter drugs and herbal products. For adults Paracetamol the general dose for fever and pain is 325-650 mg tablets once in every 4 to 6 hours or 1000mg tablets once in every 6 to 8 hours. It is advised to be guided by the doctor’s prescription and never to exceed the prescribed dosage.
Chlorzoxazone act as a muscle relaxer. It works by blocking pain sensations or nerve impulses that are sent to the brain. Chlorzoxazone when used together with rest and physical therapy can treat skeletal muscle conditions such as injury or pain.
Avoid using this medicine if you are allergic to it or if you are taking sodium oxybate. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant , planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding or if you have have liver problems or a blood disease called porphyria . Stop using this medicine and consult your doctor if you experience any serious side effects including black, bloody, or tarry stools, nausea , itching , fainting, upper stomach pain , dark urine, loss of appetite and clay-coloured stools.
Chlorzoxazone is to be taken by mouth with or without food. Taking it with food reduces the risk of stomach upset. Do not take in this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow your doctor’s prescription carefully to ensure complete safety.
